Play snake
Play snake, when it isn’t dressed up as a battle royale, is a small mean loop: nudge a direction, eat, get longer, regret the length. The head keeps walking whether your pride is ready. Walls (usually) end the story. Your own back ends it too. There’s no loot crate waiting politely after lap three.
This door exists because people type the verb like it’s a destination. Same animal as home — marketing hat off, impatient energy on. You’re not earning move permission by reading a manifesto first. The board upstairs already believes you.
Want it slower and sepia-brained? Classic eases the first lap. Want the green LCD cosplay? Nokia paints it. Want the rulebook spoken without a lecture voice? How-to keeps a live board while you skim.
When
When to use
Five minutes between classes. One hand on a phone on the night bus when the playlist runs out. You’re not here to read a thesis about genre history — you want the coil moving before the next notification.
When not
When not to
Hunting other players on the same map → leave; we don’t host that circus. Need the rulebook spoken slowly with examples → how to play. Only care about LCD green and 3310 nostalgia → nokia. Soft first minute after years away → classic.
Defaults
Assumptions
Medium speed, normal grid, walls that kill you unless you flip Wrap. No snaking backward into yourself in one tick — the game blocks that rude sandwich. Best score is this browser’s gossip, not a cloud stadium. Sound stays off until you poke it.
Steps
How
- Nudge a direction — arrows, WASD, or a swipe that meant to be decisive.
- Eat the yellow square. Get longer. Feel the empty floor shrink like oxygen.
- Leave an exit lane, or invent a new swear when you don’t.
- Die. Hit New game. Argue with Best like it owes you rent.
Worked notes
Examples
- You’re winning the edge loop, then you cut in early for one more bite → classic self-own — longer ≠ smarter
- You arrived from a site that made you watch a bumper ad before move one (here the board doesn’t wait for applause)
- Medium feels soft after coffee (Pace strip → Hard / Impossible; same dumb corners, less mercy)
Watch-outs
Gotchas
- Longer ≠ smarter. Empty floor is oxygen until it isn’t.
- “Play snake” on the internet often means io junk with stranger snakes; this page ignores that fashion on purpose.
- Wipe site data, wipe bragging rights. Best lived here, not in our vault.
- If you reverse into yourself and nothing happens, that’s courtesy — not a bug. Instant self-sandwich is blocked.

FAQ
Common questions
- Multiplayer?
- Just you. Lonely on purpose.
- Account?
- What account. Best is local gossip.
- Controllers?
- Fingers. Maybe a keyboard. Swipe on phone.
- Why not only the homepage?
- Because people type “play snake” like it’s a verb, and verbs deserve a door.
- Is this snake.io?
- No. Nobody else is on your board. Wrong decade of boredom if you wanted a crowd.
